When to apply for a postgraduate course in Norway

Application deadlines vary from institution to institution. The application deadlines for foreign students usually fall in the period between 1st December and 15thMarch for Master's programmes starting in the following autumn (August). Please note that some institutions have separate "pre-qualification" deadlines that are earlier than this.

For example, the Bergen University College's website highlights the 1st December deadline for Master’s programmes. If you have not graduated by this date yet, you are still required to apply by then. You will need to update your application when the final results of your Bachelor’s degree is known.

Most courses have a limited number of places, so students are advised to apply early in the academic year.

Applications are considered between 1st December and 1st February. Offers are made to successful students in early April and must be confirmed or declined by 1st May.

Admissions requirements for Master's programmes at Norwegian universities

Students are required to hold Bachelor’s degree with at least 180 ECTS.

Ordinarily at least half of these credits must have been earned in a subject that is directly relevant to the subject matter of your chosen Master’s programme. Additionally students will need to have an appropriate high school education but this is unlikely to be an obstacle to anyone in possession of a Master’s degree.

You may also be required to submit a motivation letter, CV and/or academic references.
