Application Process

When to Apply

Generally application deadlines are in spring for degrees starting the following autumn. The application process can be quite lengthy so allow plenty of time. You might not get an answer all that quickly from public institutions.

Here are some examples of Italian application deadlines:

Universita Degli Studi di Milano – Master’s application deadline: 10 September 2015

Politecnico di Milano – Master’s application deadlines are usually two per year: 13 February 2015 and 29 May 2015 for September / October 2015 enrolment.

Entry Requirements

Students are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in a related subject and typically a minimum of 2.1 will be expected. Some universities will have additional entrance exams. Universita Bocconi for example requires students to take the GMAT and other universities might also specify the GRE.

For degrees taught in Italian at public universities you will usually have to sit the national entrance exam but this is not required for international (ie. taught in English) Master’s degrees. The entrance exam is often held quite late meaning you may not have long to plan your move to Italy.

If there is an entrance exam British students will be competing with Italian and other EU students. Successful applicants will be those whose performance is ranked best. No other factors will be taken into consideration. This is used only for the most competitive of international programmes at Italian universities. You will have to pay a fee to take the entrance exam if there is one.
